As marketers, we know that what matters most for our clients is getting their message out to as many people as possible.

We also know that to do this successfully, one of the best tools at your disposal is Google My Business- an online directory where anyone can find information about businesses near them like hours of operation, phone numbers, photos, and more with just a few clicks.

It used to be enough for businesses to list themselves in directories like Yelp or Yellow Pages but those were never intended for search engines.

This is because it provides the company with an opportunity to create and edit their own listing on Google Maps, which will appear when someone searches for them on Google Search or Maps.

Why you should take action against Google my Business Duplicate Listing?

While GMB may be a great way to get more exposure, there is one problem: duplicate listings. How do you remove your google my business listing? In this post, we’ll discuss 3 steps that will help answer that question!

  • If you use Google My Business to manage your business’s online presence, then you know the importance of keeping all of your listings unique.
  • If not, you might find yourself getting penalized with a lower ranking in search results for duplicate listings and having a hard time growing your business.
  • You’re probably aware that duplicate listings are a bad thing. They hurt your rankings, which in turn hurts your ability to get found on Google.

Ways to Remove/Delete Duplicate Listing

Google provides two ways to remove or report a duplicate listing. The process is easy and the success rate of removing duplicates has been high, but there are some drawbacks that businesses should be aware of before they start removal processes on their own.

  • To find out if your listing is verified in Google Maps search for it where you will see one of two results: either “own this business” or “claim this business”.
  • If the first option appears under the logo, then your company’s account isn’t currently verified. To do so follow these instructions

If not claimed yet (and can verify) enter name/phone number as well as verification code sent via text message after verifying phone number with google voice – otherwise skip past ‘enter info’

Report Duplicate Locations on Google Maps

A duplicate listing can also affect your Google Maps business ranking, but you can take a few steps to easily remove inaccurate listings and funnel consumer traffic to a more authentic source.

  • Open Google Maps, find the location you want to report, and have it removed.
  • Click “Suggest an edit.”Google Maps
  • Click on “Close or remove.”
  • Mark the location as “Duplicate”.
  • Click “Submit” and wait for Google to respond to it.

Remove/Delete Duplicate Listing

– Step One: Check your search results and see if you have any listings that are duplicates. If so, go to those pages and delete them (this will also delete the listing from Google Search).

You should do this for all of the duplicates on these sites as well.

– Step Two: Remove or merge with a corresponding google my business page that has similar content. For example, if one of your product pages appears in Maps but not the other, remove it because adding both would be redundant and create more work for yourself later when trying to figure out which is correct.

This goes back to being organized!

– Step Three: Delete any accounts that are no longer valid or haven’t been used in over six months

Why Removing is Valuable?

Removing duplicate listings does more than increase traffic and exposure for your brand; it also allows you to have full control of your online presence.

By providing updated and correct information on a listing, you make it easier for people to buy from someone they know is authentic.

This goes a long way in attracting customers who will not only keep buying but recommend others as well!

Wrap Up

there are often many listings of the same website across different websites, directories, and even social media sites. This makes it difficult for users to know which site is really authoritative.

I have to say, I’m really impressed by the power of Google.

They have a lot of listings for businesses so that if you happen to share your business name with another company there’s no problem!

It might be hard though because they’re going to get buried in search results under those duplicates.

If you’re looking for an easy way to increase your visibility with Google without having to buy ads or spend hours updating content then removing duplicate listings from Google is one option worth exploring.

Google has a lot of listings for businesses. If you have the same business name as another, it’s not uncommon to see two or more listings on Google.

The problem with this is that your listing might get buried in search results under those duplicates.

You may want to ask google for help and request that they merge duplicate listings into one listing. This will allow your business to be found by searchers who would otherwise overlook your company because of those duplicates!
